Pi day? or Pie Day?

Ha! I like Pie.. I dont know much about Pi though. However in honor of Pi Day (3/14)... Groupon is offering this scale for $24.99. I think it is adorable and it comes in a variety of colors. I have a food scale by this brand.. but I think I should get this one.. just becuase its cute... and it weighs up to 15lb.. v. 5lb.

Brrrr!

So I'm cold. I know its March and its winter and I'm in NYC.. but I'm cold! I tried to go for a run yesterday after work. It was a fail. I started off cold. And then I was trying to walk/jog/walk with the Couch to 5k program but my knee would not coorperate. I managed to do 1.91 miles.

When I got back home I just couldn't warm up. So running this morning was not an option.

Heart Rate Monitor??

I was considering a Heart Rate monitor.... I have one.. but its kind of wack.... But the point is to gt fit with out spending a grip on it. HRM are good as they help you stay in the "zone"..and calculate the calories burned ... I dunno. I'm still thinking... But I did see this and I thought I should share.
Pyle Heart-Rate Monitor

$23.99 for a Pyle Heart-Rate Monitor ($62.99 List Price). Four Colors Available. Free Shipping and Free Returns.

Oh My..

Kickboxing at JKM fit last night was great. I still can't complete all the exercises but I guess that's to be expected.

That moment when you are on the bus going home and you realize that sweaty smell is you. :-( signs of a good workout and not enough deodorant. Ha!

Wanted to go walk/running this morning but the snow has started and it's windy. #notafan. Home workout tonight. Hopefully.

Color Me Rad!!!

So I have been half-assedly (yes.. I think I just made up a word) doing the C25K (Couch to 5K) program. And then saw this Groupon for an entry into the Color Me Rad 5K race in July. While I think July might be too hot and I might pass out or take three days to finish. I bought it and I now have a goal and a reason to do the C25K...

Everything comes gradually

from Real Simple
How appropriate... I think I will stop weighing myself daily. :-)

Gotta Keep Pushing...

So I had a Kickboxing class scheduled for Monday at 5:15 at JKM Fitness. I get a text at 3:30 stating my daughter didn't have practice and has to be picked up by 6. No class for me. :-( I would have been missing my son's basketball game anyway. By the time I got home.. I was absolutely beat... no home workout for me.

This morning I did the warm up for that Kettlebell Kickboxing I mentioned in another post and then I did this kettlebell workout I found on Women's Health Mag website. I plan to do that again tonight. That will bring me to about 50 minutes. We'll see.

Cool Deals I noticed today!

Groupon Deals:

45 day Gym membership AND 3 hour-long personal training sessions for $45 at Boom Fitness I got this Groupon before but I let it expire. Its a pretty good deal if you can manage to get to this gym a couple times a week and you can get some good advice from the personal trainer. However I've never been here so I have no idea what to expect.

$29 for one month of Unlimited Yoga, salsa, Hip-hop, Zumba and belly-dance classes. They have classes everyday so in theory you could get lots of use of this deal. However who has that much time? Its a good deal if you foresee a slow month coming. The schedule is here

3 Months Unlimited fitness, boxing, or Boot-camp classes  for $45. This is a great deal. Most of the deals are about $5 per class/session, so If you can get there about 2 times a week you will net out to about $1.88. Its in Sunnyside, so I have no information about the quality of the K2 boxing club.. but at $15 a month.. its a good deal. I still recommend bringing your own gloves.

3-Months of Unlimited Martial Arts classes for the kids! This is a great deal. I was looking into martial arts classes for my children at one time and it was about $99 per month per child. I would definitely check the reviews of Pouncing Tigers before purchasing and dragging the kids out .. but still... $33 a month is a great deal for ANY kinds of children's class.

Tip: Pay attention to the expiration dates and the amount of groupons you already have! I have had a couple of themexpire on me. :-(

Super Sunday!

Today I wasn't up for a walk/run and I needed to do laundry anyway. So... I decided to do this Kettlebell Kickboxing workout I recently received.

Oh Emmmmm Geeeee as my 9 yo daughter would say. I couldn't finish it. I came close but I just couldn't. Not to mention I couldn't keep up with the steps. I always thought I was reasonably coordinated until that Zumba class a few weeks ago and this DVD today. It was rather embarassing. However.. the sweat was pouring off of me and I feel a little pain in muscles I did not know I existed in my tummy. Can't necessarily SEE them yet.. but thats besides the point.

A nice walk to and from the movies with my kids. Happy Sunday!

Saturday Morning Walk/Jog

Today I tried to start the Couch to 5k prgm, with a free app. That was a Fail. I think it was more my internal stuff than my actual ability. However, I did track my walk with the FREE Nike+ app. It was my farthest walk and my fastest. (That could be because it was like 30 degrees). Regardless... I'm proud! :-)

Fitbit

So I'm a gadget girl...however they are typically not in my budget. I received a giftcard for Christmas from my wonderful little brother and I was able to get my Fitbit One. I was talking about it to my mom and we found the Fitbit Zip on sale on Amazon.com.  It tracks your steps, calories burned, and distance. Great for those free runs around the city. You can sync with a Droid or an iPhone/iPod/iPad.... or a computer if you dont have any of those. Its just the same as the One except it doesn't track sleep. I haven't found the sleep tracker to be necessary.... *shrug*.. thats me though.  Its not necessary for weightloss or shaping up .. but fun to have. This is a good deal.. if you are into gadgets and have a tight budget.

Kickboxing!

Love love love Kickboxing... This is a great deal. $29 for 10 classes or $45 for 20 classes gloves included. It actually a Groupon for Kickboxing.com which looks to be group of schools in a variety of locations, including Brooklyn, Queens, LI and Westchester.

This nets out to about $2.25-2.90 per class. If I didn't have a bunch of classes still left with my JKM Fitness package AND I didn't live and work in Manhattan, I would grab this up.

Boxing

So I've never tried boxing.. but I hear it is great for getting out anger and frustration (need that) and burning calories (want that). Something like 1000 in an hour. So I when I saw this Groupon 2 or 3 - 60 minute Boxing Lessons for $24 or $35, I snatched it up. Well I researched the gym and snatched it up. I prefer deals that allow me to get about 5 classes (or more) for about $25 or less.. but this seemed really good.

from the Mendez Boxing NY site.

This place also offers a FREE lesson for first timers, although I don't know how long the lesson is.

I have no recommendations as I haven't attended yet, however the Yelp reviews are pretty good. No date given for expiration of this deal so I suspect it will end when a certain amount have been purchased.

20 Classes for $20!

Yesterday I took a MHD (Mental Health Day). My job is great but between work, kids, and school, I needed some "Me Time." However, this left me with nothing to do.. So I decided to take a kickboxing class at JKM Fitness.

I bought this Groupon in Jan 2013, 20 classes for $20. I'd never been to the facility but at $1 per class.. how bad could it be! I took the kickboxing Bootcamp class a couple of weeks ago. It was ok, but not great. There was no instruction on form, and more bootcamp than kickboxing. I still was super sweaty.. and that is the purpose right? The instructor was a fill-in for the normal one so I gave it a pass.

On this past Sunday I took a Core Bootcamp class. I won't even tell you my abs were STILL hurting on Wednesday. I know this is supposed to be a good thing but it didn't feel good. I did appreciate that the Instructor (who happened to be the owner) was doing all the exercises with the class.

Yesterday's class was awesome. Beating the crap out of a weighted punching bag, how could that not be great. The instructor, John was aggressively encouraging but not too bad. He also helped with form. Tip: bring your own gloves or lots of hand sanitizer.
from JKM Fitness Website

They are offering this same Groupon today. I totally recommend it. The deal has no expiration date, and the voucher doesn't either (although it says it does, the website says they don't have expiration dates.... call to confirm though). It isn't the fanciest place (I've only been to their 50 Lexington Location), come prepared to workout and leave sweaty, (no showers and a weird dressing area), but come prepared to get WORKED OUT. Totally recommend it. See you there!
